Stranger than fiction

January 13, 2014

Back in Los Angeles, land of traffic, billboards and unbelievable graffiti. Here, the irony of a TV program that’s all about the tough law people enforcing the law, painted with illegal writing.

Don’t know what CAUSE LOER means. I googled it – if you can tell me, post a comment with the info.

I’m so impressed by whoever got up there, and wrote that without getting caught, however little sense it makes to me. I’m all fan girl. This is a definite case of graffiti making a billboard better. Some other examples in this ADWEEK blog which¬†¬† led me to 40 BILLBOARDS IMPROVED BY GRAFFITI on buzzfeed…

I pulled a few of my favorites and posted them below. Enjoy!

Who is the elephant wo/man?

September 12, 2013

Santiago Canyon is sort of urban greening… A walkway and bike track along a dry, polluted river bed.

I don’t walk it for it’s natural beauty, I walk it because there are no stop signs or traffic lights. And sometimes for the graffiti – like this.

See the elephant. Middle, slightly to th eleft? Above it, the cars roar along the freeway. In the magic hour sun, it has a weird, messed up beauty.

Are you the artist? Every time I see a new elephant I wonder how I could meet you. Maybe I’ll paint my own…

Kids come here to smoke weed and other stuff. It the recent drought has dried up all the mucky water and it smells like rotting algae.

This is my favorite.

See the new one? One the storage unit. It’s Red, which is new. The others were all blue.

God. I miss Sea Point promenade.

I know this looks pretty in the picture but it’s not, not really. The water is rancid. Even the ducks seem to have left for greener pastures. The river was dammed years ago so it doesn’t flow anymore.

500 feet of LA Street in a few photographs

November 19, 2010

I’m obsessed. I’m writing so much. But I did go to LA today, and I took some photos of graffitti. I think I’ll just post them without comments… I want to live there so badly, every time I visit.

La Woman

Cows... with a bowl of water to drink from.

She Guevarra?

Arty rebellion on W. Third St.

We skipped the mall... another time.

Simple and effective protest, probably done with toxic paint that is almost certainly a by-product of the gasoline industry.

Oddly, McDonalds is running a campaign at the moment. It's called "Monopoly is Back". No irony there... at all.

If you wait just a minute...

... the lights change.
